Guide to HPE Functional Dry Needling

HPE Functional Integrated Dry Needling

Advance approach in Clinical and Sports Dry Needling

Dry Needling - an Advance approach in Pain Management.

well not really advance, it is based on the science of acupuncture, only difference is the terminology and site of its insertion. while in acupuncture, insertion of needles  is on the reference point / meridian points.

in DN its at source of pain or in Functional DN at the physiological system.

Only reason why dry needling technique was discovered or invented, was to basically eliminate pain arising due to muscle knots often referred to as tender spots / trigger points.

HOW HPE FUNCTIONAL DRY NEEDLING

More Superior to traditional DN ?

Traditional Dry Needling is an outdated concept now and earlier it was practiced to eliminate knots present in muscle and fascia and its associated pain.

Functional Integrated Dry Needling target all physiological connective tissue in the human body, not just restricting to muscle.

the physiological system that HPE focuses more on are

SKIN, SUPERFICIAL  FASCIA, DEEP FASCIA , MUSCLE, TENDON, LIGAMENT, BURSAE and CARTILAGE and their associated Injuries and Symptoms.

 HPE FUNCTIONAL DRY NEEDLING

Helps in  ?

  • Reducing Pain.
  • Reducing Muscle tightness.
  • Increasing the Muscle strength in case of weakness.
  • Increasing the Flexibility in Ligament, Tendon, Fascia and Muscles.
  • Increasing proprioception.
  • Increasing Flexibility in Joints.
  • Reducing the Swelling in case of acute condition.

HPE Functional Dry Needling Protocol - target the sensory Mechanoreceptors present in the connective tissue to influence the motor output,  to improve the FUNCTION, in other words it is called as

"SENSORI - MOTOR TRAINING"

Influencing the mechanoreceptors in various different connective tissue helps physical therapist to achieve the goal in all above listed indication.

Functional Dry Needling crafted and created with advance recent based evidence protocol by HPE UK physical therapist in London, UK. This approach integrates a variety of dry needling techniques during a single session. Unlike acupuncture or trigger point release therapy,  which traditionally selects points along meridians, functional dry needling targets anatomical structures that are the underlying cause of musculoskeletal conditions.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

During a typical  treatment, thin filament needles are inserted into various targets that have been determined to be the underlying cause of the painful condition. They are left in from several seconds to 20 minutes. Typically there will be 10 or more needles used for most conditions. Different strategies are used for acute injuries and chronic pain conditions that make this a highly effective treatment modality for soft tissue injuries.

Physiology

Inserting the needles through various connective tissue cause macro trauma leading to more inflammatory changes which releases chemical to cause dilatation of terminal capillaries to heal the tissue

" bringing good oxygenated blood to remove the bad toxicated harmful metabolic waste product / residue of inflammation process"

" Peripheral Mechanism of Pain relief"

Piercing the Needles through skin also stimulate sensory mechanoreceptors in skin to create Central Mechanism of Pain Relief  via

"presynaptic and postsynaptic inhibition"

Keeping the Needles in the Affected Area influence metabolic changes causing release of hormones and various chemicals to promote and accelerate healing

" Cytokines, Nitric oxide, Fibroblast and interleukin"

HPE Approach

Using the lower skin resistance channel, Physical therapist apply electrical current (micro Current) that helps stimulate the mechanoreceptors of the connective tissue to bring all positive changes.

Needles Used in Dry needling Procedure are the same that is being used in Acupuncture, only difference is Dry Needling technique reach up to the depth of the connective tissue.

"however acupuncture approach is more superficial"

The Needles Comes with different Dimension and Sizes, choosing the needles size is the physical therapist task to know the exact muscles surface anatomical landmark.

"it varies with patient size and muscle bulk"

HPE Approach

HPE Dry needling Instructor will teach you in depth about various clinical and Sports condition and its application by using

Stages of Conditions.

HPE Procedure

treatment area should be well lit and free of clutter.

Part should be exposed

clean the exposed part

choose specific needle no and dimension

warm the tissue

Insert the needles at specific angle and for specific duration

Ideal therapeutic duration is 10 -15min

Discard the Needles used

sterilize the part

Post treatment Icing is recommended

Perform Stretch movement or Resistance training.
